BRIEF OF HISTORY OF DOPI
History and Milestones of Davao Oriental Polytechnic Institute
1969
Davao Oriental Polytechnic Institute started as Lupon Community High School.
1971
From Lupon Community High School, the school was named Lupon Municipal High School.
1982
The Sangguniang Bayan ng Lupon passed a resolution recommending the conversion of the school into a school of fisheries considering among others the need for such a school in the province being located along Davao Gulf and having vast areas of brackish water fishponds in the place.
November 15, 1982
Parliamentary Bill No. 1642 filed by the late Assemblyman Teodoro Palma Gil was signed by then Pres. Ferdinand E. Marcos under Batas Pambansa Bilang 298; the school became Lupon School of Fisheries.
1991
The school acquired a 4.5-hectare fishpond area given by the Dacudao family through a deed of transfer of rights without any single centavo paid by the government.
1992
Congw. Thelma Z. Almario gave Php 500,000.00 from her Countryside Development Fund. The fund was utilized in the purchase of a 5.1-hectare land adjacent to the fishpond area.
The school started offering a post-secondary course in Diploma in Fishery Technology majoring in Aquaculture and Fish Processing.
March 1998
With the passage of RA 7796, otherwise known as TESDA Law in 1994, the school was officially transferred to TESDA.
2002
LSF operated as a full-time TESDA-administered institution offering only POST-SECONDARY qualifications with the Distinctive Area of Competence (DAC) in Aquaculture.
2019
House Bill No. 6724 (Renaming Lupon School of Fisheries into Davao Oriental Polytechnic Institute), sponsored by Representative, Hon. Joel Mayo Z. Almario, was passed into law (RA 11209), signed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte on February 14, 2019.
